Building Block #2: Money
What does it cost to be COMPETITIVE?
Money refers to the the resources and finances a campaign will need to implement an effective action plan. While more "money" is typically better than less, it is critical for a serious campaign to know the bare minimum required. The campaign “math” tells a campaign which voters to target, but money is necessary to reach these voters, build name awareness, share your message, and cover day to day operating expenses.
Careful and realistic budgeting on the front end of a campaign is critical to success. It helps with fundraising, planning, and strategy. Campaigns that don't budget will often run short of resources in the final days of an election. While fundraising is a never ending endeavor, successful candidates spend these last critical days working voters, not donors.
